About Lizzie Mac

She closed her agency. Retreated to a storm-battered island. Talked to herself on the beach. And somewhere between the cold wind, the raging waves and a decade of opinionated characters refusing to behave, a series was born. Family Secrets is only the start.

Lizzie decided only a few years ago to close her translation and copywriting agency so she could write novels. As her dreams of becoming a writer started during childhood, it was about time.

As an author and devoted reader she enjoys well-written texts and surprising stories. She believes that love is what life is all about, and that humour makes everything lighter, although life can hit her characters hard.

Her own favourites? Just about everything by Jane Austen, Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

Lizzie likes to be surrounded by family and friends but occasionally withdraws to a small island to focus on writing. She prefers to go off-season so she can avoid most of the tourists. Another bonus of solitude is the freedom to talk to herself during her walks on the beach (preferably in a raging storm). The title of Family Secrets is the result of one of those one-sided discussions, as is the concept of shouting therapy.

How Family Secrets became a series

Family Secrets is Lizzie’s first novel but by no means her first story. Want to know why she starts off with a series? It wasn’t the original plan or anything. It’s just that she sat on this initial story for well over a decade, and it got a bit out of hand in all that time.

A single book was not enough anymore. Her characters decided to choose their own path, refused to follow her instructions, got ideas about themselves and made outrageous plans. So, she now needs a whole series to share their stories with you. But don’t worry. You will love them all the more for it, and you will want to know everything there is to know about the members of the Clover Clan.
